How a Life Coach Can Help You

How can you create lasting change in your life? 

 

Close your eyes and think of what you want most in the world! Is it to be successful, happy, healthy or confident? Do you want a promotion in work or to find your one true love? Do you want to leave your job and finally set up your dream business? 

Have you fallen out of love with your life - do you wake up every morning wondering when the rat race is going to give you a god dame break? Everything is the same as it was the day before and you are no closer to living the sort of life you imagined when you were younger.

Imagine how successful you would become if you only knew of a way that you could honour your commitments, stay accountable and take massive action! 

My all time favourite coach, Anthony Robbins, says "the path to success is to take massive and determined action". And as a life coach I am a person who counsels and encourages you on matters having to do with careers, relationships, confidence, happiness or personal challenges. I help you create a plan of action. 

As human beings we need to progress in life. We need to constantly move forward in order to live happy, healthy and positive lives. Yet, every day we hold ourselves back because we are afraid, insecure, uncertain, entitled and doubtful. 

 

We tell ourselves this story! A bull shit story that offers us comfort and predictability.

 

A bull shit story that has convinced us that we are fine just the way we are and that we couldn't possibly want anything more then what we have. That would make us greedy, spoiled, ungrateful. 

But, if lying on your deathbed you utter the words "life was just fine" and feel OK with that ... well, you need to keep reading!

 

Every day is an opportunity for you to dream bigger and do better than you did yesterday.

 

This is an opportunity - we get to do this - but so many of us are stuck in a victim mentality and refuse to end the negative cycle. A negative cycle that you, and only, are responsible for!

You decide what you really want! Not what someone else thinks you you should have but what you want, your authentic, beautiful and real self. What you crave, desire and need to feel fulfilled and satisfied. You decide the direction of your progress - but progress is crucial. 

 

You need a life coach the same way you need a hair dresser, doctor, dentist or therapist. I am like a personal trainer for your brain helping you work on your mental fitness.

 

Life coaching is a future-focused practice with the aim of helping you determine and achieve your personal goals. By examining what is going on in your life right now we can discover what your obstacles or challenges might be, and choose a course of action to make your goals, ambitions and dreams a reality.

Knowledge is not power, taking determined action is! It is OK to want more because wanting is progress, moving, action! You deserve more because you are worthy of so much! You deserve to be happy!

I can relate, first-hand, to the insecurity and self-doubt that comes when you step outside of your comfort zone… the negative self-talk becomes so loud.

But I want you to remember this 'you are strong, you are powerful, you are f*cking fabulous'.

There is nothing wrong with fear, doubt or insecurity but always remember your happiness is worth more then your fear!

You are worth it.

You can find meaning and purpose in your life because you are here for a reason.

 

I believe in you. I believe in your strength, power and beauty. 

 

You can dream big and set goals. Don't ever be afraid to fail because failure is just feedback. Don't ever be afraid of judgement or rejection because at the end of the day the only opinion of you that matters is your own. And especially don't ever think you are not worthy the investment, time or resources.

When you are old, wrinkly and taking your last breaths what do you want to say that you did? Lived a life that was fine, or extraordinary

The first thing you have to do is end the bull shit! What ever the story that you have been telling yourself up until now is, it's time to cut it. It's time to end the limiting beliefs preventing you from taking action. The problem is not the problem, the problem is how you think about the problem. 

 

What do you want to say?  What will your legacy be? 

 

You are the artist, designer, architect, producer and director. It is you. This life is yours!

Your personal vision is a mental picture of how you want your life to be and you get to be in complete control of that. Create a vision that inspires you and is so compelling it draws you into it.

If life is a pyramid at the base of that pyramid is your happiness, health and positivity. No matter what level of the pyramid you are operating from a crack can penetrate the highest of peaks.

Demand a higher standard of yourself and your life and progress, move, take steps towards your vision every day. But always work on your happiness! Because of there is one thing I know for certain its that when you work for happiness, happiness works for you!

Your success will be built on the habits and rituals you create and live every day so create habits and rituals that will support you.

 

My greatest fear in life is regret and my second greatest fear in life is that I will never have reached my potential.

 

There is sparkly matter in me and the thought of not sharing that with the world scares me.

7 Mistakes You Make When Picking a Life Coach

You need a life coach the same way you need a hair dresser, doctor, dentist or therapist. and because you are worthy of only the best here are some common mistakes I see people make when picking a life coach. 

 

1. You think you have to be ready

You don’t have to be ready to work with a coach, you just have to want it! We all want something but its usually fear holding us back from taking action. A coach will help you get clear on what it is that you want and how you can breakthrough that fear, insecurity and procrastination so you can not only feel ready, but be rearing to go!

 

2. you think a life coach isn't qualified

A coach is a highly trained and experienced professional. Sure, there are dabblers with little qualification and experience - they do a 6 week course and think they have the answer to everyone problems. They work a full time job else where, read one book and all of a sudden think they can support you to achieve your dreams! Make sure you work with someone who has invested time, effort and money into creating a life and business specifically designed to help YOU. 

A life coach is supporting you to achieve your dreams - work with someone who can offer you the best possible skills, strategies and experience that you deserve (and you deserve a lot, by the way).  

 

3. YOU THINK YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER/BEST FRIEND/NUTRITIONIST CAN COACH YOU

When your toilet is clogged you aren't going to ask the electrician to fix it, are you?  So why would you ask, or even expect, your personal trainer, nutritionist or therapist to help you achieve you determine and achieve your goals? A life coach is a life coach first, and everything else second. 

 

4. You forget your  picking someone to be on your team

Working with a life coach is like asking something to be on your team and play on the same side as you. A life coach is your cheerleader and wing man all wrapped up in one! Your life coach wants you to WIN and since they only ever have your best interests at heart a life coach WILL see through all your B.S excuses and limiting beliefs. And call you on it! A life coach will never judge you for your past, present or future desires.

Working with a coach is a fun and exciting journey! Yes, there will be challenges but if you have picked the right person for your team you will never have to to face those challenges alone. 

 

5. you think A life coach will never get how you feel

I have learned that most life coaches start coaching because they have a past and they want to help people who have faced similar challenges. Make sure they are honest about their journey (and that you are honest about yours) and that they understand what it's like to feel how you feel.

 

6. you assume a life coach is cheap

For some people a life coach is the last option - plan Z. You go to a therapist, psychologist or counsellor first and none of it works. And then when you contact a life coach you are are surprised the prices are the same, or more! Coaches work extremely hard to create a plan of action that will help you achieve your goals and vision. An exceptional life coach is probably also running her own business. There is a time and place in life for all caring professions and the work of each is more valuable then words can describe. But this is your life we are talking about so don't be afraid to invest in it!

 

7. YOU THINK YOU AREN'T WORHT IT

When you pick a life coach you are picking someone that will help to transform your life. There is nothing wrong with fear, doubt or insecurity but always remember your happiness is worth more then your fear. You are worth it. You can find meaning and purpose in your life because you are here for a reason. I believe in your strength, power and potential for success. And I promise, if you make a commitment to work on your happiness, confidence or success you will find it.

Bust Out Of Your Rut


Do you feel like you are spinning in circles or that you have been stuck in the same lane for too long? 

 

Is your career on a path to nowhere, are your relationships stuck in a rut and is your lack of confidence holding you back from rebooting your life? 

 

I remember, a while back, during one of my 'STUCK IN A RUT' phases of life I used my rut as an excuse to be lazy, sad, unmotivated and afraid.

My rut meant that I didn't have to do anything and I benefitted from that!

I could watch TV all evening and binge on junk and take out food. I didn't care if I didn't see my friends because it meant I didn't have to leave the house. I went to work, came home, ate, slept and repeated the exact same thing the following day.

 

I let myself get away with happiness murder!

 

You see in life we like to do things that we benefit from, good or bad!

Maybe you are an action taking ninja and benefit from the endless opportunities afforded to you because you say yes to everything.

Or maybe you are the King or Queen of your own comfort zone and benefit from the ease, laziness and predictability of your routine.

When you are stuck in a rut it's easy to become afraid of happiness because what happens if you fail! This whiff of failure means you sit in your house and mope around in our pyjamas all day. But that's OK because you are benefitting from your rut.

And when you do think about your happiness, you question if you what you want is even realistic and then you start to procrastinate.

It's a vicious cycle.

 

I know how scary it is to start to work for happiness, but I promise when you do work for happiness, happiness works for you!

How to Deal With Bad Body Days

There are days when I feel like I am being dragged through a field backwards and then there are days I wake up and wonder why Victoria Secret hasn't asked me to walk in her show yet.

 

Whether or not you call it a fat or a bad body day, from time to time we all experience days when we are not happy with our bodies.  

Self acceptance is the art of embracing the good with the bad. It has never been about eliminating all the negative aspects of our life or our body. It is totally OK to have and experience bad body days! Feeling comfortable in your skin doesn't mean that you have to feel comfortable ALL of the time! But it does mean that you treat yourself with compasion on the icky days. 

It’s impossible to feel fabulous every single day… especially if body hate is your go-to coping mechanism. However,  here are five things you CAN do to help you deal with your body day a little better than before.

 

1. Stop Generalising

Seperate these bad body feelings with how you feel about your day or life. A fat day does not equal a bad day and it most definitely doesn’t make you worthless or hopeless. All too often we allow one small part of our day or one small negative thought to ruin our entire day. Do not write the day off because of one feeling!

Action: Write down three things that you are grateful for (look at your whole life) and reflect on and add to these through out the entire day. 

 

2. Fat is NOT a feeling! 

Feeling fat doesn’t  make you fat. Your thoughts do no define who you are! 

You are the creator of your thoughts, your thoughts do not create you.  A fat day starts with a thought you have about your body, usually after you have engaged in some sort of behaviour  e.g looking in the mirror or trying on a top that no longer fits you. 

This thought almost inevitably results in an emotion such as shame, guilt, disgust, anger or sadness.  More often than not, it elicits a whole bunch of these together. In order to pull yourself out of this negative "fat day" spiral you need to train yourself to respond in a more balanced, self-caring and desirable way!

You need to start to THINK DIFFERENTLY about your body and beauty and not react when something happens that your don’t like, but rather RESPOND to it.

Events that take place in our life are neutral, until we place a value on them.

You are not your thoughts and as the creator of your thoughts you can chose to create ones that will support you! We do this because,  instead of describing the situation objectively, we give it a negative label, which we react to, making ourselves feel worse. 

Action: The next time you are having a fat day and you notice yourself being dragged under by these negative thoughts and emotions the first thing you have to do is to acknowledge your reaction, pause and respond

 

3. Show your body appreciation and gratitude

For so many of us it feels completely normal to treat our body as a prop to express beauty - a mannequin to be manipulated, changed and put on diet after diet. We eat to manage our weight loss and we exercise to burn off extra calories. And when we look in the mirror we feel consumed by our flaws and obsesses over ways to 'fix' them.  It is time change the record and shift your energy towards connecting with what your body can do. 

When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror and said “Thank you body! Thank you for being the vehicle to help me connect with and express movement, strength, vitality, mobility. Thank you for being the suit that allows me to feel touch, cuddles, hugs and kisses. Thank you for being my body, my armour, my home”. Your body is utterly is incredible and I think you need to spend some time getting to grips with all the awesome things it CAN do!

Action: Show your body appreciation by writing down three things that you body can do to make you feel proud and happy. 

 

4. The Big Ass Picture

Life is a big picture but our feelings about our bodies, food and exercise often outweigh other things in our life. We live our life in one very small part this big picture. However, there is more to life than our appearance and one of the best thing that can happen to us is realising that there is more to us than how we look!

Thoughts about our weight, appearance and body are normal but when these thoughts begin to outweigh other parts of our life we begin to feel out of balance and out of touch with what is really important.

If you want to remembered - and this makes you happy - as the person who was always on a diet or who could recite her top 10 tips for fat loss at the drop of a hat or spent all of her free time in the gym then by means, continue on the path that you are. The legacy you will leave behind will reflect the live that you lived.

BUT if you want to be remembered for more than this, it is time to take action and focus your energy on things in your life that you want to grow. So put on your positive pants and lets get grow the good in your life because maybe, just maybe, the really important things have nothing to do with the size of your tummy, the length of your legs or the definition in your arms.

Action: Have you ever head of the saying "you energy flows where your attention goes"? Pick an area on your life - that has nothing to do with your weight or appearance - and spend time and energy losing yourself in this instead. 

 

5. Don’t beat yourself up

How you talk to yourself and how you see yourself is crucial if you want to develop a better relationship with your body. If I was to put a recorder in your head during one of your bad body days and play it back to you, would you be happy with what you hear? Our internal chatter plays a crucial role in developing and strengthening our self esteem! Instead of beating yourself after looking in the mirror and deciding you looks like a turd, practice self compassion and kindness instead. What would you say to a three year old?

Affirmations have helped me to create empowering beliefs around my body! Instead of listening to the destructive and negative internal chatter (on replay) in your head you CAN start to change this conversation.  By creating positive affirmations that will change your thoughts and rewire your brain you can release your inner fabulous. You don't need to change your body, you just need to change how you think about your body. I promise :)

Action: Repeat the following affirmation as many times as needed. Write it on 20 post-its and scatter them around the house. Save it as a screen saver on your phone. Talk to yourself in front of the mirror. Do whatever it takes. "I am fabulous, beautiful and worthy of my own love."

During bad body days one small thing is all you need to do to help yourself. Remember, what you resist persists so change the record and treat yourself with love, kindness and compassion (treat yourself the same way you would treat  your best friend, daughter or sister going through a bad body day too). What will your one small thing to beat your bad body day be?

Even though I know you can, you don’t don't have to beat your bad body days all on your own. There is so much more I can teach you!
